The 3 Don't-Dos With Makeup

December 12th, 2013 • Posted by Esthetics by Liliya Spa and Acne Clinic • Permalink

Makeup can be a girl's best friend, but there are a few cosmetic rules that no woman should break. Take a look at these tips to make sure you're putting your best face forward:

Don't go to bed with your makeup on

Nothing will clog your pores faster than leaving makeup on your face all night long. It is important to clean off makeup correctly every night so that you go to bed with fresh skin. Nighttime is when skin is rejuvenated and renewed.

Easy on the brows

You can wear bold lipstick and have lashes as long as you'd like, but don't overdo your brows. It's fine to add a little color to them, but no one should be able to notice it. The same goes for eyebrow maintenance -- leave it to us and get them waxed. Nothing stands out more than overdone brows.

Clean brushes regularly

When was the last time you washed your cosmetic brushes? You may be one of the thousands of women who don't wash their brushes, however, your brushes get a mix of facial oil and makeup on them and can become a breeding ground for bacteria. At least once a month, dip them in soap and water and give them a good wash.

As always, you can learn more makeup tips from our skilled professionals.

Cover Up that Pimple with These Tips

December 4th, 2013 • Posted by Esthetics by Liliya Spa and Acne Clinic • Permalink

Pimples seem to arrive at the worst time; so arm yourself with a few makeup tips to keep those ugly blemishes hidden. Check out this list of tips to conceal blemishes.

Hit the freezer

Grab some ice and hold it on your pimple for a few minutes. The cooling sensation will help the swelling go down.

Apply acne treatment

Pick up a small tube of spot treatment and apply a tiny amount after you've iced the spot. This will help diminish the pimple over time. Let the cream dry before moving on to the next step.

Time to conceal

If you want to hide a blemish, applying your normal foundation won't be enough. You'll need to apply a concealer. There are all kinds of concealers out there, but many people prefer the stick concealer to cover pimples. Liquid concealers tend to fade and sink into the pimple, making it look worse. Using your stick concealer, apply a healthy coat to the pimple and the surrounding area. Blend it in with a makeup brush.

Seal it with powder

You'll want to apply a coat of powder over the concealer to seal it. Now that the pimple is hidden, you can go about your normal makeup routine.

Prevent future pimples

Cheap cosmetics can aggravate breakouts. Take care of your skin by purchasing quality makeup. At the very least, splurge on a premium foundation and concealer. If you need a little help, ask us and we can recommend products and ingredients to look for.

Face It -- You're Worth It

November 16th, 2013 • Posted by Esthetics by Liliya Spa and Acne Clinic • Permalink

Face it -- taking time to take care of you needs to be first on your "to do" list. No better place to start than with  esthetician. After all, you’re going to want radiant skin for the duration.

Why go the facial route?

If you’ve ever had a good one, you know it’s not just for your skin’s benefit. A good facial gives your facial muscles relaxation they don’t often get. You may spend the day with your “parent face” on, which may involve crinkly forehead lines, or your beach squint, which definitely involves crow’s feet. We tense our facial muscles much of the day, and a facial escape gives those stressed out muscles a time to chill and rejuvenate.

This is especially important as you age because of the increasing cell turnover after 30. At that point, skin stops producing collagen and we can start to look droopy. Nobody wants droopy. High end products and facial massage helps lift that droop by bringing the hyaluronic acid back to the surface. We want that. That’s the juice that gives you that natural, youthful plump look.

On board?

Of course you are.

Be your own advocate and tell our esthetician what you want. If you like quiet, tell them before and after talking only. If your skin is sensitive, discuss this before your facial starts, as it may dictate the products our esthetician chooses. If extractions bother you, tell them to focus on massage. You will enjoy their good touch and relaxing environment. Go monthly and work your way up to more advanced treatments once you’ve developed a trust with the process.

Your skin will thank you and show its appreciation by holding on to that youthful glow. And once you take care of beautiful you, you will have so much more energy to take care of all those other items on your list.
